Emma’s most favorite item out in the big, bad world is a bus. How do I know this? We can’t pass a bus on the road without an incredibly loud running monologue on buses coming from the car seat in the back seat.
So for her 2nd birthday, the theme was a no-brainer: The Wheels on the Bus.
We celebrated on family vacation with cousins.
The games were relay races that the six children didn’t understand in the slightest, but it was still fun. Each leg of the race was a stretch of the imagination anyway. Before each “race,” we sang the verse of the song that fit with that particular leg of the race.
“The driver on the bus says, ‘Move on back’”
Running backwards (“move on back”) with a ball between the legs.
And like a good 2-year-old, the birthday girl was as disinterested as could be.
“The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish”
We created “rain” by having the kids run with a cup of water in their mouth.
Aaaannnnd… there’s the birthday girl by herself.
“The wheels on the bus go ’round and ’round”
Eating donut “wheels” from a string.
And finally, the birthday girl graced the group with her presence.
“The people on the bus go up and down”
A friendly game of leapfrog
She sang “Happy birthday” to herself right along with the rest of the party goers…
And was a perfectly polite present opener.
