Birthday Party #1 and #2

by Rebecca on July 31, 2012

Baby Girl is a bit spoiled.  She hasn’t even had her first birthday yet, but she’s already celebrated twice!  We just spent two and a half weeks in sunny California with both sides of our family.  Since Emma’s birthday is coming up and since I only have one brother and family still living in Utah (and they’re moving soon *sob*), I thought I’d take advantage of our multiple family reunions this summer and throw her a party with each side of the family.  Lucky girl.

Her first party was at my parents’ house and happened to land on her cousin’s actual 13th birthday.  He was so incredibly gracious to share his celebration with her.  He even let her blow her candle out first.  He’s a gentleman in the making.

This is a baby who doesn’t like to get dirty.  Instead of digging into her yummy cake, she searched the faces surrounding her and pled with her eyes until she found a willing servant in Grandma Brown.

Even after she had a taste of the cake, she didn’t dig in.  Instead, she used her favorite sign (*more*) to demand another bite.

When Grandma got busy, her cousin Nicole willingly stepped in.  I don’t think Emma ever really got the hang of messily eating her own birthday cake.

To celebrate the two birthdays, we had relay races with 12 cousins.  Emma sat contentedly with her uncle, unaware that any of the hullabaloo was for her.

We played typical relay games you can find anywhere online, but the hubs came up with the best one from his own head.  We’ll call it: “Stuff your face.”  Someone stands at one end with cupcakes.  The participants must run to the cupcakes, grab one, stuff it in their mouth, swallow every morsel, and run back.  It was a favorite.

By the time we played this game with Ryan’s family a week and a half later, Emma had figured out how to properly eat a 1st-birthday-cake.

She still has two parties coming up: one on her actual birthday with just our little family, and one Utah family party a few days later.  Spoiled girl, indeed.  But how could you not spoil this cuteness?  Here’s my favorite picture of the trip — with her Aunt Raquel.

We loved celebrating with her. She is already a spoiled darling but after her birthdays are finally over, there will be no living with her. So– send her here. :)

I miss her. She is so good you hardly know she is there. I love all the pictures. You do have a great camera and the party was really fun. We should do a party every year to celebrate everyone’s birthday that we weren’t there for and you can be in charge of the games.
