My Life as a Zombie

by Rebecca on February 17, 2012

My last full semester of college coincided with my engagement to that fabulous guy I married.  It also coincided with a bout of mono.  I took time off work, dropped my jogging class, bought a water filter (I don’t know?  I thought it would cure me.) and settled in for a long winter’s nap.

I’m really not sure how I finished that semester, and I am completely baffled at how I suckered a guy into falling in love with me.  Maybe I’m at my best when falling asleep on the couch halfway through movies night after night?  What does that say about my personality?  Let’s not think on this any further.

I eventually made it through that zombie period of my life (it was definitely the water filter that did it), married, graduated and moved on to grown-up things like house buying, baby having and toothpick owning.  (Toothpicks in a pantry is a sign you have arrived.)

Unfortunately, that mono monster is always on my back.  The past couple weeks, I have been getting excellent sleep at night, but I still feel like I could pass out cold and sleep until September at any given moment of the day.

I’m a self-diagnosed hypochondriac, so at best what I have is mono (a doctor told me it can rear its ugly head more than once in a lifetime).  At worst, it’s certain death.  The verdict is still up in the air.

But luckily, zombies are in vogue, so I think I’ll do just fine in this not-quite-alive state in which I’m currently walking around.  Just don’t stab me in the heart with a wooden stake…

Oh wait, that’s vampires.

I think it’s time for a nap.

Zombies are SO totally in vogue, so you’re good. ;)

So since sadly you know I am also a pro of this mono game. Make sure that you are eating lots of produce—fruits and vegetables. Also that you go outside and exercise (even if it is just a longer walk, even if it’s freezing and you have to triple bundle up the kids). It is the last thing you want to do when you are so tired, but it will help you I promise.

Can somebody explain why Zombies walk with a limp and their arms straight out? Please don’t do that.

I had mono when I was dating Jason too and was also finishing my last semester of graduate school. Too funny! And I’m tired too. Hmmmm…

I am always tired, my doctor has done countless tests and even my sleep studies have only been able to diagnose me with excessive daytime sleepiness.
Maybe I am a zombie too, is their a test for that?
