This has been sitting on my counter for over a week now. It is a $40 bottle of olive oil. Before you think I’m into expensive food, just know I would have to be at gunpoint in oder to spend $40 on a bottle of olive oil. $40 is more than half of my weekly groceries. And I don’t even coupon all that much. (One day I’ll figure that out.) The point is, I’m cheap.
The olive oil was a gift to my husband from a client. I don’t know what to do with it! Can you help? I can’t use it to just cook a frozen chicken breast in a pan. I think I could get arrested for using something so expensive in such an ordinary manner. I’m pretty sure there is a law against that. Look it up. Are there other uses for olive oil? There must be. Tell me what you would do with it. And remember, I don’t like weird foods. Keep it normal for me. Thanks. =)
Also, do you see my self portrait in the photograph at the top? I tried to take a picture without getting my reflection in the bottle, but it was impossible, so I just gave up and posted the picture with my weirdest and least flattering picture taking angle.

OH MY WORD! What a treasure!!! What I wouldn’t give for an amazing bottle of olive oil. Its the LDS equivalent to a great bottle of wine!
I can only think of using it with balsamic vinegar and sea salt (oh! and some fresh flaked Parmesan cheese!) as an amazing dipping sauce for rustic Italian bread… drool!
Thats my favorite way of eating good olive oil!
Use it to sautee your vegetables in (asparagus, carrots, onions, peppers, etc.) or drizzle it over pretty much anything you’ve made just before you serve it. Get some french bread and toast it, get some tomatoes and seed them and chop them up, mix the tomatoes with some basil and parmesan cheese and the olive oil, put the mix on the bread and enjoy. A good olive oil makes everything you cook taste gourmet. Most italian recipes are really simple foods cooked simply and then add the best olive oil you can find. I spent $11 on a bottle and it has made a huge difference. I’d like to try some $40 stuff some day when I am not so poor.
Drizzle over fresh roma tomato/mozzerella salad….. mmmmmm
mix 1 part olive oil and 1 part sugar, and it makes a great face scrub! with the $40 stuff, probably a really nice one
I have no idea. I rarely use it. I did hear that the new fad is to drizzle it over ice cream. Hmm.
Oh, and can you please email me again? I cannot find your email you sent me to pass on for the giveaway.
I’m thinking the $40 bottle is no better than the $12.00 bottle you buy in the store, but I could be wrong. I use olive oil for all my cooking. Just open it and use it like you would any oil. I probably wouldn’t use it to make zuchinni bread or other bakes treats. It didn’t cost you $40.00 so be generous and enjoy it. Bring it to the lake and we will all enjoy it.
Oh oh oh oh do NOT use it for just cooking and no that IS a nice bottle. I really think you should use it with bread, on cheese or in really nice salads.
You can’t go wrong mixing it with some good balsamic vinegar and a great loaf of bread or lightly sauteing some fresh summer veg.
Here’s my heretical suggestion. I’d use it to pop real popcorn on the stove. You’d be able to taste the oil because the popcorn will soak it up and take on the flavor. But I have an inordinate fondness for popcorn.
I totally agree with a few of the above comments. My favorite way to use it is mix it with some balsanic vinegar and a mixture of italian seasonings and dip french bread in it.
