Sweet Bedtime Rituals and Growing Up

by Rebecca on May 5, 2010

As soon as she learned the word ‘kisses,’ we had a sweet bedtime ritual in place, created by her.  We would sing her a song, say a prayer, tuck her in and leave the room, closing the door behind us.

We would wait outside the door for her gleeful shout.  “KISSES!!!!!!!!”

In we would rush to take turns smothering her soft face in kisses.

“OH NO!” she would say when we were done, and then touch a place on her face where we had not planted a big kiss.  So back we would go to kiss the empty spot, thereby successfully filling every square inch of her beautiful face with love.

The past two nights have been absent of “KISSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Has she forgotten?  Or is she just done with this ritual?  This growing up thing is hard.

You don’t realize how much you love those little traditions until they start getting too big for them!

I love that and I love all of you. You make growing up so fun for Lydia. I can’t help but laugh at all the pictures with her dark glasses on.
