I am convinced that our ability to speak makes us eat unhealthy things. Before Lydia could talk, if she wanted a treat, she had to do a very good miming in order to help me understand what she wanted. Since her young miming skills were undeveloped, she didn’t often eat treats.
Now she speaks. And she latches onto words describing treats faster than you can say “sugar.” I let her eat a little of a Fun Dip sugar treat before nap and told her she could have the rest of the sugar when she woke up. When I heard her waking up, I went in to her room to find her leaning halfway out of her crib. She looked at me with the most excited face and immediately yelled, “PINK SUGAR!”
Too cute to resist, she got what she asked for.

I so totally loved Fun Dip when I was growing up. It was one of my favorite treats! And yes, I bet our consumption of sugar goes way up when we learn to talk!
