Two weekends ago, we went to see a play.
That’s right. My husband and I took our TWO YEAR OLD daughter to see a play.
It was Jack and the Beanstalk, put on by the Children’s Theatre. We won the tickets from the great ladies at Today’s Mama.
I would never have dreamed of taking a 2 year old to a live theatre show if I had to pay my own money. But since the tickets were free, we thought it would be silly to not go!
And we’re so glad we went. The little dear was glued to the stage. She was enthralled, excited, enchanted, enthusiastic, and all sorts of other words that start with e. We never had to shush her once because she was thoroughly entertained by the play. That’s right. And it lasted for well over an hour.
The performers were wonderful. The theater was small and intimate and they came right up to the audience. Sometimes, they even sat IN the audience!
To be honest, when we heard it was put on by the Children’s Theatre, we thought it was going to be a bunch of 4th graders shouting or whispering their lines in a monotone voice. Not at all. Most of the performers were adults who were professional and entertaining.
They did a wonderful job of captivating the audience. When one of the actors said his line, “Which way did the giant go?” a little kid in the audience couldn’t contain himself and shouted out, “He went that way!” See? We were all THAT enthralled! It’s nice to see kids enjoy entertainment that doesn’t involve a screen.
Thank you, Today’s Mama and Children’s Theatre for letting us go see a play! We think the Children’s Theatre is going to be added to our annual “Places to Go” list.
And no, nobody asked me to blog about this. I was just so impressed that I had to do it!

Next time take cousen Ruby with you. She would love it
PS. Did you take pictures at the theatre?
This sounds like fun, and I love things that give a child a unique experience…not just a playground. =)
