Motivation to Exercise

by Rebecca on November 20, 2009

As the temperature outside drops lower and lower, my zeal for the gym is also declining.

Since it can and does snow well into April or May here in Utah, I know I have a long road ahead of me.  Heat seeker that I am, I need to find some serious motivation to push me out of bed and into the freezing temperatures.

It’s just so hard to leave a heated house and venture into temperatures below 30 degrees wearing SHORTS.  Arriving at the gym provides little comfort, since it is kept at a cooler temperature in order to provide relief to sweating bodies.

All the exercise equipment has been thoughtfully placed next to fans set on full blast.  Once I begin running, these fans are almost as delicious to me as frozen chocolate chips (and I LOVE frozen chocolate chips).  But before I start running, these fans blasting cold air onto my already frozen body are worse than a bag of raw vegetables (Yuck).

Standing in front of a fan on such a day and in such a state, I have to channel my inner Thor to get me moving.

Lately, however, my dislike for the cold is stronger and angrier even than Thor.  I’m in trouble if I can’t get past this!

How do YOU get moving when your body just doesn’t want to?

i’m totally with you. but it happens on any day with me. For some reason, a fan directly on me causes bad ear aches! so i can’t be by them when working out. If i were you, i would wear a swearter to the gym and take it off once you warm up. annoying…but worth it.

why punish yourself like that. Stay home in your nice warm house and do push ups.

For some reason I do so much better exercising in the cold and in the winter. It is weird. Plus you are hot and skinny stay home and eat cold chocolate chips.
