My grandma turns 91 next week.
If I counted correctly, she has lived through 17 US presidents. She was born pre-television, refrigerators, and microwaves- a fact she always loved to shock us kids with when we were young. She lived through both World Wars, and was even alive before women received the right to vote. She lived through the Great Depression, and still carries the “Use it up, wear it out” mentality from that era.
And that was just the early part of her life! I haven’t even gotten into civil rights, man on the moon, personal computers…Doesn’t it make you wonder what you will have lived through by the time you are 91?
Sometimes it seems like life if merely being lived, and nothing extraordinary is happening. But when I look back at a timeline, I think i will be amazed at the advances and setbacks that occured during my lifetime while I was just moseying about, raising a family, teaching piano, and blogging!

I actually started a timeline for myself. There are several online sites that help you do that. When you come upon something interesting on your timeline you can then look that event up and read all about it which is necessary for me because I have no memory about anything.
Sending wishes to your grandmother on her birthday as well as an Angel of Good Health for the year to come!
Scent-sationally yours
Patty
This is a great idea for a post! My hubby and I talk about this all the time. One of my other bloggy friends talked about this when she said some of the things we say to our kids like “I sound like a broken record” etc etc they don’t even know what that is!
This is where keeping a journal (and a blog) will be helpful to me…I can look back and see what amazing things have happened.
Thanks for helping me celebrate my SITS day today!
My Grandma would have turned 91 this year too, and I always think about these things. She used to tell us so many stories about growing up riding in a horse & buggy, when they first got electricity on the farm, all that stuff. Think about all the things that have already happened in our lifetime though, it’s insane to think about! Love this post!!
It’s so hard to stop and stand back and take inventory of what is actually happening during our lifetime. Really puts things in perspective.
That is so awesome!! My 77 year old grandmother is here with me right now for a 3 week visit. I just know she will be celebrating birthdays far into her 90s. It is awesome the things they have seen.
Jon and I love Frances, she is a treasure. Happy (almost) Birthday Frances!
I bet if we kept good journals, we would be suprised when we reach 90 how much has happened and how much the world has changed in our lives. It is exciting the changes that have been made and will continue to be made. We better enjoy them.
