Artist of the Week- Andrew Wyeth

by Rebecca on January 19, 2009

Andrew Wyeth, painter of this famous “Christina’s World” recently passed away.

This painting has always made me sad because the girl (Christina) was paralyzed from the waist down.  Wyeth was inspired to paint this when he saw her crawling across her field.

I think it’s a beautiful painting, but just so sad.

I’ve seen that painting many times and always wondered what the artist was trying to say. The story makes the picture so much more interesting. Thanks

I like that painting. What a contrast between the beautiful creation and yet the brokenness of this world.

I love his paintings. If you could see this closely you would see detail in the blades of grass. I really like this picture. We often feel that a body that isn’t whole or complete is unattractive. We tend to try not to look at that person. How beautiful Christine is even with a broken body. That is how God sees us.

What a thoughtful choice to ponder for me today. I’m home ill and it gives me compassion for those who face much more.

I love this picture! It’s so emotional. I think is beautiful that he immortalized Christina on the ground, moving, rather than in a wheelchair.

Sad indeed, but how wonderful of him to leave behind a legacy and beautiful art.
