Book of the Week- Funny in Farsi

by Rebecca on September 12, 2008

I just wrote my first piece of fan mail to this author.  (Ok, that’s not entirely true.  When I was a little pre-teen, I wrote a letter to heart throb Jonathan Taylor Thomas in which I oozed my adoration and even gave him my phone number should he decide to call.)

Firoozeh Dumas is such a fantastic writer that I had to tell her so myself.  (As if my opinion on the matter holds any merit).  I wrote about her book, Laughing Without an Accent here and just can’t resist writing about her one more time.

Funny in Farsi is equally as good as Laughing Without an Accent.  Firoozeh Dumas has a fabulous way of describing events in her life that make you feel as if you were there.  You truly feel like you are part of her outrageously hilarious family.  And all the while, she brings out all the good qualities of the people she writes about.  Firoozeh Dumas is one famous person I would like to meet in real life, although I am sure I would be tongue-tied if I ever did.  She is just that amazing.

I just don’t know how to handle the fact of being a fan. I never see myself when I love a book, but maybe they would see me that way if I sent them random letters of feedback adn praise. But honestly, when I find quality books, talks, wors, etc. I just want to tell the person I appreciate their creative energy and thoughts and what it meant to me. I guess if that is what it means to be a fan. I’m still a fan of so many all the time. Liek I am a fan of the books you discover for me.

That darn Jonathan Taylor Thomas. He’s everyone’s number one.

I hope I meet you in person! I will do my best to be amazing.

Thank you for your kind words. Every author wants to know that his words touched readers. That’s what keeps us going!

Best,
Firoozeh
